The aim of this study was to evaluate the tolerance and effectiveness of radiotherapy and radiochemotherapy in patients of recurrent gastric cancer. We analysed history of 11 patients at the age between 46 and 68 with local recurrence of gastric cancer. As a primary treatment they all underwent partial or total gastrectomy.Four of them were treated additionaly with radiochemothetapy. In the group the median time from the first operation to the relapse was 27,6 months. At that time eight of the patients were suffering from pain, dysphagia and weakness. Their performance status was estimated as good, in one case as quite good. Six patients were reoperated on. Five people in the whole group were treated radically. Every patient received radiotherapy or radiochemotherapy. A paliative effect was noted in 4 patients (36 %). The median survival time was 27,6 months, in patients treated radically it was 14,2 months, in the rest – 8,5 months. CONCLUSION: The tolerance of the treatment was good. A partial paliative effect was brought. Since the group of patients was very small, it is reasonable to continue studies estimating the role of radiotherapy, radiochemotherapy and chemotherapy.
