Purpose: To present and assess own results of palliative chest teleradiotherapy in the group of 1350 patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
Materials and methods: All patients were treated with short, split course, hypofractionated radiotherapy (two courses of 20 Gy / 5 fractions, separated by one week gap).
Results: Among 1350 patients, 285 survived 12 months (21,1%), 76 patients (5,6%) - 24 months. In the group of higher performance status (Karnofsky Scale 60 – 70), 1 year survival rate was 24,4%, whereas in the group of lower performance status (Karnofsky Scale 40 – 50) only 17,4%. In the group with weight loss less than 10% 1 year survival rate was 24,3%, whereas in patients with weight loss greater than or equal to 10% only 19,3%.
Conclusions: Proposed chest radiotherapy regimen was effective. Prognostic factors in analyzed group were performance status and degree of weight loss.
