The standard teatment for ovarian cancer is a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. Radiation therapy has played as far less important role in ovarian cancer treatment than in other gynecologic malignances such as cervical cancer. The limited applications of radiotherapy for ovarian cancers are whole abdominal radiation therapy and/ or local radiation therapy for strictly palliative purposes. Several studies have reported that local external beam irradiation can effectively resolve various symptoms caused by metastatic tumors and can be useful for palliative purposes. But local radiation therapy is beneficial only in small subset of selected patients becouse the majority of recurrences in ovarian cancer present as a widespread disease in abdominal cavity, so the whole abdominal radiation seems to be rational treatment choice.
